ARK Putney Academy achieves ‘good’ Ofsted after only six months

has been graded good in all four categories in its first Ofsted inspection – an exceptional achievement in just six months. Ofsted said that ARK Putney 鈥渋s a well-led academy鈥 whose students’ progress by the end of year 11 exceeds the national average.

They said that: 鈥淭eaching is typically good with some that is outstanding. Students鈥 behaviour is good… They treat each other and staff with courtesy and respect. 鈥淭he sixth form is good. Students achieve well and make a positive contribution to the life of the academy.”

Ofsted added that the principal and his leadership team have: 鈥渇ocused relentlessly on securing improvement in teaching and students鈥 achievement. Leaders at all levels… have a clear view of the strengths and areas for development of the academy, which they are tackling rigorously and with determination. The academy鈥檚 focus on securing achievement pervades the work of the leadership team and is embraced at all levels.鈥

Chair of Governors, Michael Clark, said: 鈥淲e are delighted with Ofsted鈥檚 judgement which is a huge endorsement of the hard work of the principal, Mark Phillips, and his team. ARK Putney Academy鈥檚 success is growing steadily and we鈥檙e really pleased that students and staff also made clear how much progress they see the school making.鈥

Principal, Mark Phillips, said: 鈥淭his is a great outcome for our school and a reflection of the hard work that has gone into raising standards. I鈥檓 particularly proud of the inspectors鈥 comments on the commitment of staff and of their praise for our students. We are determined now to continue to raise standards and to work towards an outstanding grading. I鈥檇 like to thank all our staff, students and parents for their support and commitment. 鈥
