The Duchess of Cambridge took part in an ARK outdoor challenge with children from . The duchess chatted to the children and saw their activities, such as building a shelter and a camp fire.
The course was part of ARK’s programme of schools-led outdoor adventure trips, designed to enable schools in inner-city areas to lead their own trips at low cost.
35 per cent of children from low income families do not participate in any out-of-school activity: ARK’s outdoor challenges offer children the chance to experience a little of life in the countryside, often for the first time. Teachers benefit enormously too, gaining the skills and confidence to run these experiences independently. As a result, the residential courses become far more cost-efficient, ensuring many more pupils can benefit.
